Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 March 2025 · Last updated: 22 April 2026
AssetScope (“the App”, “we”, “us”) provides a suite of product management tools to Shopify merchants. This Privacy Policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and your rights as a merchant or store visitor.
1. What AssetScope Does
AssetScope provides the following twelve tools, all operating within your Shopify admin:
- Speed Audit — Scans product images for file size, format, and dimension issues, producing an A–F grade and a list of recommendations.
- Image Optimiser — Converts and compresses product images (PNG → JPG) to reduce page load times, with a safe-replace workflow that checks theme references before overwriting.
- Bulk Tag Editor — Adds or removes product tags across multiple products non-destructively, leaving unlisted tags untouched.
- Bulk Vendor & Type Editor — Updates the vendor name and product type fields across multiple products in a single operation.
- Bulk SKU & Barcode Editor — Edits SKUs and barcodes across products and variants in bulk, with duplicate detection and before/after preview.
- Bulk Collection Manager — Adds or removes products from manual collections in bulk.
- Bulk Status Manager — Publishes, unpublishes, or archives multiple products at once by setting their status to Active, Draft, or Archived.
- Collection Converter — Converts a Shopify manual collection to a smart (rule-based) collection, or vice versa, while preserving the original collection URL handle.
- SEO Editor — Bulk-edits SEO titles and meta descriptions across your product catalogue, with auto-fill and find-and-replace functionality.
- URL Handle Editor — Detects and corrects messy auto-generated product URL handles in bulk, with duplicate detection. Shopify automatically creates 301 redirects for changed handles.
- Bulk Price Editor — Applies percentage discounts and sets compare-at prices across multiple products and their variants in a single batch operation.
- Bulk Inventory Editor — Adjusts inventory levels (add, subtract, or set to a fixed quantity) across multiple products and variants in bulk, with multi-location support.
2. Data We Access
To provide these tools, AssetScope requests the following Shopify API scopes:
- read_products / write_products — Required to read and write product titles, tags, vendors, types, SKUs, barcodes, images, status, SEO fields, URL handles, and variant prices across all tools.
- read_files / write_files — Required to read image file metadata (size, format, dimensions) and to upload optimised replacement images via the Image Optimiser.
- read_collections / write_collections — Required to read collection membership and type, and to create, update, or delete collections via the Collection Manager and Collection Converter.
- read_inventory / write_inventory — Required to read and update inventory levels per variant and location via the Bulk Inventory Editor.
- read_locations — Required to list fulfilment locations so the Inventory Editor can target a specific location or all locations.
We do not access customer data, order history, payment information, or any personally identifiable information about your customers.
3. How We Use Your Data
Data accessed through Shopify APIs is used exclusively to:
- Display product information within the AssetScope interface inside your Shopify admin.
- Perform the bulk operation you request (tag changes, image optimisation, SKU edits, vendor renames, status changes, SEO edits, handle updates, price changes, collection conversions, etc.).
- Generate speed audit reports and image health scores.
- Write approved changes back to your Shopify store via the Admin API.
We do not use your store data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the features described above.
4. Data Retention
AssetScope does not permanently store your product data or image files. All processing is performed in real time during your session:
- Product data is fetched on demand and held in memory only for the duration of the operation.
- Image files processed during optimisation are discarded immediately after the optimised version is uploaded to Shopify.
- No product catalogue data is retained between sessions.
- Feature request submissions (name, email, and message) are stored securely on our server solely to allow us to respond.
5. Data Security
- All data transmission between AssetScope and Shopify occurs over HTTPS.
- OAuth tokens used to authenticate with the Shopify API are stored encrypted.
- Access to your store data is limited to the specific API scopes listed in Section 2 and cannot exceed those permissions.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your store data with third parties.
6. Third-Party Services
AssetScope operates entirely within the Shopify ecosystem. We use the following third-party services:
- Shopify Admin API — All product data is read from and written to your store via Shopify’s official API.
- Google Analytics — We collect anonymised usage analytics on our public marketing pages (not inside the Shopify admin). No personally identifiable information is collected.
7. Your Rights
As a merchant using AssetScope you have the right to:
- Uninstall the app at any time from your Shopify admin, which revokes all API access immediately.
- Request deletion of any data we hold by contacting us at the address below.
- Review what data Shopify has shared with AssetScope via your Shopify admin under Settings → Apps → AssetScope.
8. GDPR Compliance
AssetScope is designed for Shopify merchant use and does not process personal data belonging to your customers. Merchant account data (store name, API token) is held in accordance with GDPR Article 6(1)(b) — processing necessary for the performance of a contract. You may request access to or deletion of this data at any time.
