Shopify Image Speed Audit

Your Shopify store is losing customers
to slow images.

Every extra second your Shopify store takes to load costs you 7% in conversions. But Shopify gives you no tool to find out which pages are slow, which images are the culprits, or how much each fix is worth. AssetScope’s speed audit scans your entire store in 30 seconds, grades every product page A–F, and tells you exactly what to fix — with estimated savings in plain English.

Shopify doesn’t tell you which images are killing your conversions.

Page speed is directly tied to revenue. But without a tool to surface the problems, most merchants don’t know they have them until sales start dropping.

Every second costs 7% in revenue

Google and Deloitte data consistently show that every additional second of page load time reduces conversions by ~7%. A store doing £10k/month loses £700/month per slow second — invisible unless you measure it.

Shopify gives you no image health score

Shopify has no built-in tool to tell you whether your product images are the right format, the right size, or whether they’re adding unnecessary bytes to every page load. You’re flying blind.

Finding the culprits manually takes hours

Manually checking every image in your store — format, dimensions, file size — across every product page and your Files Library takes a full working day. AssetScope does it in 30 seconds.

Three steps from install to first fix.

1

Install AssetScope

Install from the Shopify App Store in 30 seconds. No setup wizard, no configuration. Open the app and click Speed Audit.

2

Scan your store

AssetScope scans every product image and Files Library asset. In about 30 seconds you get a full report: pages grouped by A–F score, with plain-English insights and estimated savings for each issue.

3

Fix what matters

Fix images individually with one click, or use Fix all images to batch-process an entire product page. Every fix is previewed before it saves — you stay in control.

Shopify image speed audit, graded by page.

One click scans every product image and Files Library asset. Results are grouped by page with an A–F speed score and plain-English insight — so you know exactly which pages are costing you conversions and what to fix.

Everything in the Shopify image speed audit.

A–F speed grade per Shopify page

Every product page and Files Library gets a letter grade based on image weight, format mix, and oversized dimensions. Prioritise the worst offenders first.

Plain-English insights with estimated savings

"2 images stored as PNG — wrong format for photos. Could save ~2.1 MB — ~0.8s faster on 4G." No jargon, just exactly what to fix and what it’s worth.

Batch fix an entire product page

Select a product page and fix every flagged image in one click. A page with 8 slow images is fixed in under a minute — not 8 individual uploads.

Files Library coverage

Product images aren’t the only culprits. Forgotten campaign banners and old promo assets in your Files Library bloat your store too — AssetScope catches all of them.

Preview before committing

Every fix shows you the before and after — exact file sizes, dimensions, and format — before anything changes in your store.

Safe replace: theme scan first

Before any image replacement, AssetScope scans your active Liquid theme. If a file hardcodes the old image URL, you see it listed before you confirm. No broken banners in production.

The numbers that matter.

Page speed is one of the highest-ROI improvements a Shopify merchant can make. The cost of not fixing it is measured in lost checkouts.

Common questions about Shopify image speed.

How does the AssetScope Shopify speed audit work?
AssetScope connects to your store via the Shopify GraphQL Admin API and retrieves every product image and Files Library asset. It analyses each file’s format, dimensions, and estimated compression potential, then assigns an A–F speed score to each product page based on the cumulative image weight. The scan typically completes in under 30 seconds for stores with up to a few hundred products.
Why do Shopify product images affect page speed so much?
Images are typically the largest assets on any e-commerce product page — often accounting for 70–90% of the total page weight. Large PNG files used for photographic content, oversized images downloaded and then displayed at a fraction of their native size, and bloated JPGs that were uploaded uncompressed are the most common causes of slow Shopify product pages.
Does Shopify automatically optimise images for speed?
Shopify converts images to WebP format at delivery and serves them via its global CDN — but it converts whatever you upload. An 8 MB PNG uploaded to Shopify becomes an 8 MB PNG faithfully re-encoded as WebP. Shopify does not resize, recompress or convert between PNG and JPG. The source file determines the outcome. AssetScope fixes the source files.
What is a good Shopify page speed score?
AssetScope grades pages on an A–F scale. An A or B score typically means your images are well-optimised and unlikely to be harming your conversion rate. A C score is worth investigating. D or F means you’re almost certainly losing sales to slow page loads and the fix is straightforward.
How much revenue can I recover by speeding up my Shopify store?
The widely cited Deloitte/Google figure is 7% improvement in conversion rate per second of load time saved. For a store doing £10,000/month in revenue, reducing load time by one second — achievable by fixing a few large images — is worth approximately £700/month in recovered sales.
Does the speed audit cover all Shopify pages?
The audit currently covers product pages (grouped by collection or page) and the Shopify Files Library. Homepage and collection page images are typically served from the Files Library or from product images, so the audit catches the vast majority of speed-impacting assets in your store.
