Editing one product at a time

Shopify only lets you edit metafields product by product. For a catalogue of 500 products, adding a single metafield value is a half-day job.

Schema migration is manual

Moving to a new store means rebuilding every metafield and metaobject definition by hand, namespace by namespace, with no export option.

Management is buried

Shopify scatters metafield and metaobject settings across multiple admin screens with no unified view of what’s defined and what’s populated.

Three steps to full metafield control

1

Browse your schema

See every metafield and metaobject definition across all namespaces in one unified table — with entry counts, types, and which resource they apply to.

2

Bulk-fill entries

Select any definition, filter products by vendor, collection, or search, pick the rows you want to update, and set or clear values in one operation.

3

Migrate between stores

Export your full schema as a portable JSON file and import it to any other store. AssetScope diffs the incoming schema against the target and flags conflicts before touching anything.

What it will do

Bulk set & clear values

Choose any metafield, filter your catalogue, and set or clear values across every matching product in one click. No API required.

Product & variant metafields

Edit metafields at the product level or the variant level — useful for materials, size guides, colour codes, and anything variant-specific.

One-click schema export

Export all metafield definitions, metaobject definitions, and optionally all entry values as a single portable JSON — ready to import to any store running AssetScope.

Conflict-aware import

Before creating anything, AssetScope diffs the incoming schema against the target store’s existing definitions — flag conflicts, skip, overwrite, or merge.

Metaobject definition builder

Create and edit metaobject types with fields, validations, and display names visually — no JSON. Manage types and all their entries from a single screen.

Non-destructive by default

Every import shows a preview diff. Every bulk operation requires an explicit confirm. Nothing is changed until you say so.

Frequently Asked Questions

In standard Shopify admin, no — metafields can only be edited one product at a time. Metafield Lab lets you set or clear values across your entire catalogue without touching the API or a CSV, directly from your Shopify admin.

Both. The export includes your schema (definitions and types) and, optionally, all the actual entry values. You can choose definitions-only (great for setting up a dev store) or definitions plus all data (for a full store migration).

Yes — AssetScope needs to be installed on both the source store (to export) and the target store (to import). Since AssetScope offers a free 7-day trial with no credit card required, this is a quick setup even for a one-time migration.

All standard Shopify metafield types: single-line text, multi-line text, integer, decimal, boolean, date, URL, JSON, file, and all reference types. Metaobject definitions including field structure and validations are also fully supported.

AssetScope flags it as a conflict in the import diff view. You can skip it, overwrite it, or merge (add new fields without removing existing ones). Nothing is changed until you explicitly confirm.
